Titans, Lady Titans Sail Past Seahawks

Monaca, PA – On Wednesday November 20th, The Community College of Beaver County came away with two 20-point victories at NJCAA Region XX opponent Cecil College in North East, Maryland. The Lady Titans bested Cecil’s women 80-60 (20 points) for their second win of the season and the CCBC Men were able to “one-up” the ladies, defeating Cecil’s men’s team by a scoring over 91-70 (21 points).

The Lady Titans (2-3 record) were dominant on both sides of the ball Wednesday on the road against Cecil College. The Lady Titans shot 47.2% (25-53) from the field and held the Seahawks to just 25.4% (18-71). Sophomore Guard Arianna Harper led the offensive attack, scoring 30 points, aggressively attacking Cecil’s defense and earning 20 free throw attempts (15-20) in the contest. Sophomore Forward Island Bradley continued her excellent work in the paint, chalking up another double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds in just 30 minutes of play before fouling out. Sophomore Ameerah Godwin also finished with a double-double, tallying 11 points and pulling down 13 rebounds of her own in the 20-point route of the Seahawks.

The Titans (3-1 record) followed up the excellent performance of the women with one of their own, turning defensive into offense early and often in Wednesday’s nightcap. The Titans forced Cecil into committing 19 turnovers which they turned into 28 points to help them secure their 91-70 victory over the Seahawks. Sophomore Forward Simeon Fryer led the Titans balanced scoring attack with 24 points on 9-13 shooting from the floor and 4-6 from 3pt range. Sophomore Guard Rasheed Browne added 20 points and 4 assists and Sophomore Forward Chris Greene finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds. The Titans got a big boost from their bench from Sophomore Forward Tyree Corbett and Freshman Guard Yazid Powell. Corbett continued his solid play, recording another double-double, finishing with 11 points and 11 rebounds in 20 minutes of play off the bench. Powell attacked aggressively in transition which helped him get to the free throw line 10 times in the contest (8-10) and finishing with his season-high 13 points and 6 rebounds in the win.

The CCBC Men will return home to face Northern Virginia Community College on Saturday November 23rd looking to extend their winning streak to 3 games.
