Titans Take Two in Pepsi-Cola Classic

Monaca, PA – The Community College of Beaver County Titans traveled to Cumberland, MD looking to continue their early season excellence against two tough opponents in Hagerstown Community College and Alleghany College of Maryland. Coach Spriggs led the Titans into Cumberland with a 6-1 record and the team was able to come away with two victories on the weekend, pushing them to an 8-1 record. 

The Titans faced off against Hagerstown on the front-end of the Pepsi-Cola Classic at Alleghany College of Maryland. The Titans were able to mount enough offense to secure the 21-point victory over Hagerstown despite only shooting 34.4% from the field. Freshman Guard Yazid Powell was the catalyst for the Titans, providing 18 points and 5 rebounds off the bench to lead the team to a 69-47 victory. Sophomore Guard Cyrie Coates played a complete game contributing with 12 points and 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Sophomore Guard Rasheed Browne added a 10 point and 10 assist double-double to the winning effort and Sophomore Guard Simeon Fryer chipped in with 10 points.

The following day the Titans took the court against host team Alleghany College of Maryland, where a late rally propelled the Titans to a 111-71 win over the Trojans. The Titans offense was too much for the Trojans, shooting 60.0% for the game with 6 Titans scored in double figures in the 40-point route. Sophomore Guard Rasheed Browne posted another double-double, 18 points and 12 assists and Freshman Guard Yazid Powell scored 18 points off the bench to lead the Titans offensive attack. Sophomore Guard Simeon Fryer, Sophomore Guard Dymir Montague and Sophomore Forward Chris Greene each scored 16 a piece and Sophomore Forward Tyree Corbett added 11 points off the bench.

The CCBC Men will head down the road to Penn State Beaver to spread some holiday cheer before heading into winter break. The CCBC Titans will face Villa Maria of Buffalo on Friday December 20th at 5:00pm and Bryant & Stratton Rochester on Saturday December 21st at 1:00pm. The Community College of Beaver County will look to improve to 10-1 heading into the Christmas Holiday.
