Titans Remain Unbeaten at Home; Win 3-Game Homestand

Monaca, PA – The Community College of Beaver County Titans returned from Christmas break to a 3 game homestand against a few difficult opponents. The Titans hosted Cuyahoga Community College on Sunday, Garrett College on Wednesday and Montgomery College (MD) on Saturday. The Titans were able to continue their excellent play prior to the holiday break, sweeping the week and winning all 3 games.

On Sunday, January 5th, The Titans took the court for the first time since their win over Bryant & Stratton of Rochester on December 21st. In a low-scoring, grinded-out game, The Titans provided just enough offense to power themselves past Cuyahoga in a 71-62 victory. CCBC’s ability to shoot from beyond the 3pt line proved to be the biggest difference in the game. The Titans shot 50.0% (7-14) from 3pt range while holding Cuyahoga to just 14.3% (1-7). Sophomore Guard Simeon Fryer lead the way for the Titans with 20 points, including 4 3-point field goals. Fryer added 6 rebounds and 5 assists to his excellent performance against Cuyahoga. Forward Chris Greene provided another offensive spark for The Titans, scoring 19 points on 50.0% shooting from the field and grabbed 11 rebounds. Sophomore Guard Rasheed Browne added in 13 points and 9 assists and despite not recording a stat, Freshman Guard Daniel Felix played outstanding defense on Cuyahoga Forward James Graham. Felix played only 5 minutes and disrupted Cuyahoga’s leading scorer down the stretch to closeout the victory for the Titans.

After a postponed meeting at the Community College of Allegheny County on Monday, January 6th, Garrett College visited The Dome to take on CCBC on Wednesday, January 8th. Garrett came into the Dome with a 9-2 overall record. The Titans offense heated up to out-gun the Lakers in route to a 92-78 victory. CCBC’s men finished with 6 players in double figures and assisted on 29 of their 35 made field goals in Wednesday nights’ victory. CCBC’s offensive attack was led by a dynamic duo off the bench, Sophomore Forward Tyree Corbett and Freshman Guard Yazid Powell. Corbett finished the game with a 16-point and 11-rebound double-double and Powell added 15 points to lead the Titans. Sophomore Guard Dymir Montague made 3 3-point field goals and scored 15 points and Sophomore Guard Rasheed Browne posted a 13-point and 11-assist double-double. Sophomore Guard Simeon Fryer and Sophomore Forward Chris Greene each added 11 points to round out the offensive attack for the Titans in the win over Garrett.

The Titans ended their 3-game homestand with an afternoon meeting with the Raptors of Montgomery College of Maryland, who came into The Dome with an 11-3 record. The Titans were prepared to protect their home court and behind a 3-point barrage, were able to hand the Raptors their 4th loss of the season and improve their home record to 7-0 and extend their winning streak to 13 games. The Titans connected on 14 of their 25 attempts from 3-point range, shooting 56.0% to defeat Montgomery in convincing fashion in the 115-86 win. Sophomore Guard Rasheed Browne paced the Titans with 28 points, shooting 10-13 from the floor and 6-8 from 3-point range. Browne added 7 assists and came away with 4 steals to lead the Titans in the 29-point route. Sophomore Forward Chris Greene scored 20 points and pulled down 9 rebounds and Sophomore Guard Simeon Fryer had a complete game with 15 points, 8 assists, 7 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals. Sophomore Forward Tyree Corbett posted a 12-point and 10-rebound double-double and Freshman Guard Yazid Powell added 12 points and 4 assists off the bench.

The CCBC Titans will look to extend their winning streak on the road in their next 3 games, visiting Westmoreland County Community College on Wednesday, January 15th at 7:00pm, Pennsylvania Highlands Community College on Saturday, January 18th at 3:00pm and Butler County Community College on Wednesday, January 22nd at 7:00pm. The Titans will then return home on Monday, January 27th to take on Butler County Community College at 7:00pm.
