Beaver County Stuns Potomac State By Snatching First Set

Box Score

MONACA, Pa. – The Community College of Beaver County volleyball program came out of the locker room on fire and gave the highly-touted Catamounts of Potomac State a scare, sneaking up on the West Virginia University system school and taking the opening game by a 25-17 margin, before succumbing to the visitors from Keyser the remainder of the match.

The set victory was the first time the Titans had defeated the Catamounts in a race to 25 points over their previous 16 meetings, with the last instance before Wednesday evening coming on September 26, 2012.

Titans' Top Performers:

  • Meredith Kolling showed off her double-double vision for the third time of the 2025 campaign against WVUPS, tying her career-high of 12 kills (3.00 p/s) to go along with ten digs (2.50 p/s), a team-best three service aces (0.75 p/s), and a pair of block assists (0.50 p/s).

  • Kolling was not the only player to set a personal record as Abby Olszanski raised her benchmark in the digs department up to 19 (4.75 p/s) plus two assists.

  • Keeping the theme of student-athletes exploding for big nights, Lainah Bruce eclipsed the 20-assist (5.00 p/s) threshold for the first time in 2025 and the fifth time as a collegian while playing a solid backline as well at six digs.

  • Lianna Monero blistered six kills over a span of 26 attempts in the four-set thriller and Alaya McKenzie swatted away not one, not two, but three Potomac State attacks, sending the trio of balls hurtling back towards the opposite end of the hardwood.

Next:

  • A Region 20 tri-match is next on the to-do list for Coach Bellinger's ladies, taking on the host Anne Arundel Hawks at 10 a.m. and then the Frederick Cougars immediately thereafter on Saturday in Arnold, Maryland.
