Bio

Community College of Beaver County (CCBC) announced the appointment of Tyler Care as the next head coach of the CCBC men’s basketball team on January 12, 2021. In this role, he will oversee all elements of the program, ensuring success for the student-athletes on and off the court.

“We are thrilled to name Tyler Care as head coach of CCBC’s men’s basketball program,” said Colin Sisk, CCBC director of student life and athletic administration. “We are confident that Tyler will enhance our program in ways that will deliver excellence on and off the court, both on camps and in the community.”

“I’d like to thank Colin Sisk, the search committee, and the CCBC leadership team for trusting me to lead our student-athletes,” Care said. “My roots are here in Beaver County and I am beyond excited to be joining the CCBC community as a coach. I will bring passion and dedication while instilling a culture of discipline and a winning mindset that will challenge my players to build championship habits.”

Care joins the CCBC community having spent the last six seasons as the head coach of the Penn State Greater Allegheny basketball program. During his tenure, he led the Nittany Lions to an overall record of 101-43 (.701), two conference championships, two bids to the USCAA National Tournament and a USCAA National Championship appearance in his final season. Care earned PSUAC Coach of the Year honors in 2018 and recruited and coached six USCAA All-American and 10 All-PSUAC student-athletes. Beyond the court, Care coached 16 student-athletes to USCAA All-Academic Award status (3.5 cumulative GPA with at least 24 credits earned).

During his time at Penn State Greater Allegheny, Care also saw his duties expand to impact more than just the men’s basketball program, as he served as Assistant Athletic Director from 2018 to 2020. In his role, he provided administrative oversight for the campus recreation program at Greater Allegheny, as well as the campus fitness center. He also developed intramural opportunities, coordinated student-athlete development programming and facilitated athletics travel and recruiting strategies. As part of the role, Care developed the Graduating Athletes Initiative, a comprehensive plan focused on student-athletes personal growth, professional development and academic achievement that was centered on campus-wide engagement and involvement.

Prior to his time at Greater Allegheny, Care served as a Graduate Assistant at California University of Pennsylvania during the 2013-14 and 2014-15 seasons. During that span, he oversaw compliance with NCAA regulations, and worked closely in coordinating recruiting operations. The Vulcans earned the sixth seed in the PSAC post-season tournament and defeated the then fifth-ranked team in the country on their home floor.

Care got his start as a collegiate coach at CCBC, serving as the Associate Head Men’s Basketball Coach in the 2012-13 season. He provided support in scouting, practice planning, statistical and video analysis and monitored student-athlete academic progress and academic success plans. During his tenure under the Golden Dome, the Titans went 23-0 en route to a WPCC Championship and a Region XX Finals appearance. He was instrumental in the recruitment of two NJCAA All-Americans during that span as well.

Care earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Management and Administration from Penn State University at the Beaver Campus, where he was part of some of the winningest seasons in the history of the men’s basketball program as a student-athlete. As a student-athlete, he was part of three PSUAC Conference Championship winning teams and made it to the USCAA National Championship game once. He earned his Master of Science in Sport Management from California University of Pennsylvania in 2014.

A Raccoon Township native, Care is heavily involved in the community, having worked with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Beaver County as a mentor, and as a volunteer with Special Olympics of Beaver County for over a decade. He currently resides in White Oak, Pa.
