Titans Improve to 11-1; Win Two Games at Penn State Beaver

Monaca, PA – Coming off a 112-80 victory over Point Park JV, The Community College of Beaver County Titans took a short trip down the road to neighboring Penn State Beaver to face Villa Maria of Buffalo and Bryant & Stratton Rochester prior to Christmas. The Titans came into the weekend looking to extend their early season winning streak to 10 games since their first and only loss to Harcum College back on November 9th

The Titans were able to defeat Villa Maria of Buffalo in the first game of the weekend slate, scoring 90 points on 34-75 (45.5%) shooting from the field. The Titans offense was jump-started by an outstanding defensive effort where the Titans came away with 21 steals for the game, effectively holding Villa Maria to just 63 points. Sophomore Forward Tyree Corbett was inserted into the starting lineup and responded with 22 points and 9 rebounds to lead CCBC on Friday evening against Villa Maria. Freshman Guard Yazid Powell continued his great stretch of performances of the bench with 19 points and 3 steals. Sophomore Guards Rasheed Browne, Cyrie Coates and Dymir Montague contributed to the Titans winning effort on both sides of the ball. Browne and Montague both scored in double figures, posting 13 and 11 respectively, and Coates added 7 points to the offensive output. The trio of Sophomore Guards combined for 15 of the 21 steals CCBC came away with against Villa Maria (Browne 6, Coates 5, Montague 4).

The following day, The Titans took the court at the Beaver Fieldhouse against Bryant & Stratton Rochester. The Titans again proved too dominant offensively, coming away with a 20-point victory heading into the Christmas Holiday. CCBC were able to shoot 36-69 (52.2%) from the field and had 6 players reach double figures in the scoring column in the 97-77 win. Sophomore Forward Chris Greene took the leading scorer role in Saturday’s victory, pouring in 19 points on 7-12 from the field. Sohpmore Guard Rasheed Browne and Freshman Forward Elijah Kiah-El both added 14 points, Sophomore Forward Tyree Corbett posted a 12-point 12-rebound double-double and Sophomore Guards Simeon Fryer and Cryie Coates added 12 and 11 points in the win over Bryant & Stratton.

The Community College of Beaver County Men will head into the Christmas Break with an 11-1 overall record, including a perfect 4-0 record on their home floor. The CCBC Titans will return from the Christmas Holiday a home contest against Cuyahoga Community College on Sunday January 5th at 3:00pm before a quick trip to the Community College of Allegheny County the following night on Monday January 6th. The Titans will then play host to Garrett College on Wednesday January 8th  and Montgomery Community College of Maryland on Saturday January 11th.
